Reports are spreading on social networks about the metapneumovirus infection and that this infection is even more dangerous than COVID-19.
The Health and Epidemic Control Committee has announced the following about this disease:
Metapneumovirus was first identified in 2001 and is mainly transmitted through airborne droplets, and in rare cases, through contact with contaminated surfaces. The virus is mainly active during the autumn-winter season.
Metapneumovirus infection usually manifests as acute respiratory infections with symptoms such as runny nose, coughing, and fever, and in some cases, can lead to bronchiolitis and pneumonia.
The majority of people infected with metapneumovirus recover without complications.
Cases of this virus are recorded every year in all countries of the world.
Just as around the world, the press service of the Ministry of Health of the neighboring Republic of Kazakhstan has announced that there is currently a seasonal increase in acute respiratory viral infections and influenza, along with the detection of metapneumovirus.
In our republic too, a seasonal rise in acute respiratory infection cases is being observed.
According to the latest laboratory analyses of these respiratory infections: the flu virus is found in 36.9% of cases, rhinovirus in 30.2%, respiratory syncytial virus in 28.6%, metapneumovirus in 1.2%, and other viruses in 3.1%.
"At this point, we advise our citizens to prevent contracting these infections by:
adhering to prevention and hygiene rules;
limiting visits to crowded places, especially with young children;
isolating family members who show symptoms of the illness, and to seek treatment based on medical advice," - it is stated in the report.
