Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko announced that he has never discussed the issue of merging the two countries with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to his words, Minsk and Moscow have created "a unique alliance that does not exist anywhere else on our planet" here.

"There has never been any conversation between us about merging into one state or annexing each other," Lukashenko said at a press conference following the presidential election voting.

He emphasized that Russia and Belarus are discussing how to collaborate and coexist in the future. Lukashenko added that not everything is going smoothly in the relations between the two states, but they are overcoming problems and moving forward.

He also promised that Moscow and Minsk would build an alliance that former Soviet republics would envy.

Before the presidential elections in Belarus, the foreign ministers of Russia and Belarus, Sergey Lavrov and Maxim Rzheznikov, had a phone conversation, discussed bilateral cooperation issues, and agreed to maintain working contacts in all areas.

We remind you, Alexander Lukashenko gathered more than 86% of the votes in the Belarusian presidential elections.
