The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) announced that it would take strong measures in response to the "military provocations" imposed by the USA and South Korea.
According to a statement from the DPRK Ministry of Foreign Affairs, "As the USA denies the DPRK's sovereignty and security interests, only strict measures will be taken against them. The DPRK will not allow a disruption of the balance of power due to the military alliance between the USA and South Korea and will apply strong retaliatory measures against them." This was reported by the Korean Central News Agency here.
According to the statement, the USA and South Korea conducted joint aviation exercises on January 21–24.
Additionally, they organized joint shooting exercises on January 14–16. On January 22, the USA announced agreements on arms supplies to South Korea.
According to the DPRK, Washington and Seoul's actions are worsening the situation in the region by strengthening the military alliance. At the same time, Pyongyang accused the USA of attempting to achieve military superiority in the Korean Peninsula.
Previously, the DPRK had conducted tests of strategic missiles intended for submarines. The country's missile agency announced that these tests were conducted to strengthen the country's defense capabilities and to counter its strategic adversaries.
