The Reuters news agency reported this.
According to reports, Biden filed a lawsuit against the Justice Department. It demanded an indefinite ban on providing audio recordings of interviews conducted with the memoir author in 2016-2017 to the Republican-controlled House Judiciary Committee.
The former president said that these interviews discussed very personal and sensitive topics. In particular, memories of his son Beau Biden, who died in 2015 due to cancer, were recorded.
"The plaintiff, Joseph Biden, asks the court to limit the Justice Department from presenting the materials to the committee," the document states.
The audio recordings were obtained during a 2023 investigation into Biden's handling of classified documents. At that time, the Justice Department concluded there was no basis to file criminal charges.
Biden emphasized that the publication of these materials would violate his right to privacy. The lawsuit notes that the Justice Department previously held the same position, but the decision changed after Donald Trump returned to power.
It has become known that the department plans to provide the audio recordings and their transcripts to lawmakers on June 15.
Current President Donald Trump, however, criticized Biden's decision. On the social network "Truth Social," he called Biden a "dishonest politician."
