However, the Iranian side states that no final agreement has been formalized yet.
Trump yesterday, on June 11, emphasized during a meeting with journalists at the White House that the negotiations between the US and Iran have reached a positive stage.
"We have reached a very good agreement with Iran to end the war," said the US leader.
According to him, the documents are almost finalized and could be signed in Europe in the coming days. Trump also noted that the main goal of the agreement is to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
"Iran will never have nuclear weapons. That was the main goal of the entire process," he said.
At the same time, the official representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Ismail Baghaei, in an interview with a state television channel, called the reports about the agreement "speculative and premature."
"Nothing has been finalized yet," said Baghaei.
He stated that agreement has been reached on a large part of the memorandum of understanding, but the US side has put forward additional demands during the negotiation process. At the same time, Tehran has indicated that it will not back down from its "red lines."
It is worth noting that Trump has made statements several times in recent months about the proximity of a peace agreement with Iran. In particular, in April he said that an agreement would be reached "soon," and in May he emphasized that the negotiations were practically concluded. However, no official agreement has been signed to date.
Notably, just a few hours before his latest statement, Trump indicated that new strikes against Iran could be carried out. The US has also warned that it could target Iran's main oil export terminal, Kharg Island, and other energy facilities.
In response to these statements, the Iranian military announced that if the country's oil infrastructure is attacked, the retaliatory measures will be more severe than before.
In recent weeks, the confrontation between the US and Iran has escalated again. The sides have exchanged strikes several times. While Washington has attacked Iranian military and radar facilities, Tehran also reports that it has carried out strikes using missiles and drones against US military bases in the Middle East.
As the situation in the region becomes more tense, UN Secretary-General António Guterres once again called on the sides to show restraint. Additionally, Pakistan, Russia, China, Turkey, India, and Saudi Arabia have also stated their support for resolving the conflict through diplomatic means.
