Within the framework of demarcation work on the state border between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, the villages of Chongara and Toshtepa, located in the Fergana region, have become part of Kyrgyzstan. This was reported by Askat Alagozov, press secretary of the President of Kyrgyzstan, in a statement.
According to him, approximately 2,500 ethnic Kyrgyz reside in these settlements. Registration work will now be carried out in these villages, and the residents will be granted Kyrgyz citizenship.
It is noted that, in accordance with the agreement between the two states, Kyrgyzstan transferred to Uzbekistan land plots of equal area located near the border in exchange for these territories.
Additionally, land areas of equal value with a total area of 236 hectares were exchanged for the construction of a road between the villages of Say and Tayan. According to the Kyrgyz side, once this road is put into operation, residents of the Batken region will be able to travel from the city of Aydarken to the city of Batken covering a distance of only 55 kilometers, instead of the current 225-kilometer detour route.
