In the quarterfinal match of the 2026 World Cup, the Argentine national team defeated Switzerland 3-1 in extra time, securing a spot in the semifinals.

In the match held in Kansas City, Missouri, USA, the score was opened by Alexis Mac Allister in the 10th minute. Switzerland's Dan Ndoye equalized in the 67th minute.

A controversial situation occurred in the 72nd minute of the match. Initially, the referee showed a yellow card to Argentine midfielder Leandro Paredes. However, following a VAR review, the decision was overturned, and Swiss striker Breel Embolo received a second yellow card for simulation and was sent off.

After the regular time failed to determine a winner, the match went to extra time. In the 112th minute, Julián Álvarez restored Argentina's lead, and in the 120+1st minute, Lautaro Martínez scored again to seal the match.

 For reference, the team will face the English national team on July 15 for a place in the final.
