An underground tunnel leading to the state border with Uzbekistan has been discovered in the Batken region of Kyrgyzstan. According to preliminary data, this passage may have been used for the illegal transportation of goods through smuggling.
According to the Batken Regional Internal Affairs Directorate, officers of the Service for Combating Extremism and Illegal Migration received operational information that an underground tunnel was being dug in the border area.
During inspection work, an underground passage leading towards the territory of Uzbekistan was found in an abandoned house located in the village of Chechelik, belonging to the Ishaq-Polotkhon aiyl aimag in the Kadamjay district.
According to preliminary data, the tunnel is approximately 12 meters deep and 1.5 meters wide.
Law enforcement agencies assume that this underground passage may have been dug for the purpose of illegally transporting goods across the Uzbekistan–Kyrgyzstan state border.
Currently, pre-investigation inspection measures are being carried out in connection with this incident. In addition, operational-search activities continue to identify persons involved in digging the tunnel, using it, and possible smuggling activities.
