Apple has sent security warnings to some users in 110 countries that they may have been targeted by sophisticated spyware attacks. According to the company, the threat may affect iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices. Regarding this, TASS reported.
The warnings were sent on August 13. Since Apple began sending warnings about spyware-related threats, it has notified users in more than 150 countries.
According to the company, such programs differ from common malware and are used primarily to target specific individuals. Cases have also been recorded of their use by governments, as well as for monitoring journalists, activists, and representatives of civil society.
Apple now displays security warnings directly on the iPhone’s lock screen. In addition, the messages are sent via email and also appear when the user logs in to their Apple account.
The company stressed that receiving a warning does not mean the device has already been compromised. This means that Apple has detected suspicious activity indicating a possible targeted attack.
Apple recommended that users who received a warning about the threat enable Lockdown Mode — the "Restriction Mode". This mode is designed to strengthen protection against highly targeted cyberattacks.
