A two-year plan has been developed in the country aimed at mitigating the consequences of external economic pressure. This was announced by Iran's Minister of Economy and Finance, Seyed Ali Madanizoda, in an interview with the state television channel on August 24.
According to Madanizoda, Tehran had long been expecting the new US restrictions and had developed the necessary measures against them in advance.
"The government has a two-year plan that takes into account all possible scenarios," the minister said.
He emphasized that Washington cannot achieve its goal by cutting the main "arteries" of Iran's economy. Madanizoda assessed the new US measures as economic pressure and said Tehran has response measures to them.
The minister also noted that the country's steel and petrochemical industries had been seriously damaged as a result of the previous war. According to him, work was carried out to restart and restore the affected enterprises.
Meanwhile, the US has intensified economic pressure on Iran. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned on August 24 that secondary sanctions could be imposed on countries and companies maintaining economic ties with Tehran. Washington said that those continuing trade relations with Iran could be cut off from the US dollar-based international financial system.
Also, the US Treasury Department announced the possibility of imposing secondary sanctions on digital assets, technologies, gold, aviation, and maritime shipping sectors that are believed to be used by Iran to circumvent sanctions.
Under the new US measures, sanctions have been announced against a total of 60 individuals, organizations, and vessels.
Tehran, in turn, says that Washington's new sanctions cannot derail the country's economy. Iranian officials do not rule out that response measures to the sanctions may be taken.
