This was reported to the publication “Lada.kz” by Yerbolat Mukhashov, founder of the company “Caspian Holiday”.
According to the information, the newly emerged island is located east of Svyatoy Island in the Northern Caspian, approximately 500 meters away from it. It is located about 30 kilometers from the village of Bautino in the Tupkaragan district of Mangystau region.
According to Yerbolat Mukhashov, in the northern part of the Caspian Sea, particularly around the islands of Kulali, Morskoy, Svyatoy, Podgorny, Usharal, Mayakshykkan, and Dolgiy, where Caspian seals live, new dry lands have been appearing over the past 4–5 years as a result of the decrease in the water level.
Wolves live on the newly formed dry lands. Wild boars and badgers are also found there. The coastal areas are home to various fish and birds.
The emergence of new islands as a result of the Caspian Sea’s retreat has been noted previously. In particular, in May 2025, specialists from the P.P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Astrakhan State Nature Reserve confirmed the existence of a new island 30 kilometers southwest of Maly Zhemchuzhny Island in the Northern Caspian. Its appearance was explained by the decline in the Caspian Sea level.
Also, in early 2025, NASA satellite images revealed the appearance of a landmass recorded as a “wandering” island near the coast of Azerbaijan. It emerged above the water surface following a mud volcano eruption in early 2023, but by the end of 2024, it had again submerged.
Experts emphasize that the water level in the Caspian Sea continues to decline. The emergence of new islands is also one of the visible signs of this process.
