US President Joe Biden explained his departure from the presidential race as a commitment to democracy.
“I believe my accomplishments as president, my leadership in the world, and my vision for America's future merit a second term. However, nothing can impede the path of preserving our democracy. This also applies to personal ambitions,” he said.
Biden stated that in the past weeks, he has realized that he needs to unite the country and the Democratic party, and the best way to move forward is "to pass the baton to a new generation."
“This is the best way to unite our people. There is a time and place in society for individuals with many years of experience. There is also time and space for new voices, and yes, young voices. I have read this post, but I love my homeland even more. Serving this country as President has been the honor of my life,” — he added. Biden called on Americans to support Kamala Harris as the likely next US presidential candidate. "I have made my choice, now the choice is yours," said Biden.
