Telegram founder Pavel Durov highlighted the possibility that the critical articles from "Important Stories" and other media could be part of a campaign against the messenger.
In his opinion, this appears to be a coordinated effort aimed at discrediting Telegram.
Durov provided several examples:
— Accusations related to OSINT channels – According to him, some Russian and Ukrainian media had spread "false news" that Telegram blocked open intelligence channels for political reasons. In reality, "these channels were temporarily suspended by automated systems due to the distribution of personal information".
— "Untechnical" review regarding IP addresses – Some publications released articles claiming the user's security on Telegram was put at risk by IP addresses. Durov mentioned that these reports were "denied by experts", but the refutations were not widely publicized.
— Fake news published by "Panorama" – The parody publication's false report about Telegram leaving Russia was taken seriously by many. As a result, Telegram was forced to add a disclaiming label beneath such posts on its own platform.
"For 12 years, Telegram has been actively supporting personal privacy and freedom of information. This puts us under considerable pressure from many media outlets," says the founder of Telegram.
