At least 19 people have died as a result of landslides in the state of Kerala in the south of India. This was reported by zamon.uz  

Landslides occurred in the mountainous areas in the north-eastern part of the state. Hundreds of people may have been buried under the rubble. Officials have not yet announced the exact number of victims.

Rescuers are working at the site of the incident. They have been joined by the military, and three military helicopters have been sent. The heavy rain that is falling is complicating their work.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed sympathy to the family members of the victims and announced compensation for them.
