Last night, on August 14, more than 360 people were poisoned by free school lunches provided under the initiative of President Prabowo Subianto in the city of Sragen, Central Java, Indonesia. This was reported by "The Independent."
According to reports, one of the school students woke up last night with stomach pain, headache, and diarrhea, and after seeing classmates making similar complaints on social media, realized it was food poisoning. This is the largest recorded case of poisoning under the free meal program so far.
"Until the laboratory results come out, we have requested a temporary halt to food distribution from that kitchen," said Sigit.
Dadan Hindayana, head of the National Food Agency responsible for the program, stated that after previous poisoning incidents, standards for kitchen operations and delivery processes had been tightened.
This multibillion-dollar policy is a key program in Prabowo's election campaign. The president claims it will improve the quality of life for the population and stimulate economic growth.
