According to calculations, Uzbekistan annually needs an amount equivalent to 10 percent of its Gross Domestic Product for improving energy, water, transport, IT, and other infrastructures.
In this regard, the President applauded the meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank being held in Samarkand.
As the country's leader noted, significant experience has been gained through close collaboration with international financial organizations in this area. As a result, the private sector is actively entering these fields.
A major program has been adopted in Uzbekistan to implement public-private partnership projects worth 30 billion dollars by 2030.
Specifically, projects to construct toll roads in the “Tashkent – Samarkand” and “Tashkent – Andijan” directions, and new railway lines for high-speed trains on the “Tashkent – Samarkand”, “Samarkand – Navoi – Bukhara” routes will be implemented.
The privatization of the management of the republic's 6 international airports to public-private partnerships will take place.
Furthermore, over the next five years, the management of electricity, water, and gas distribution networks will transition to private operators. For example, more than 50 foreign prestigious companies have expressed their interest in managing the electric networks of the Samarkand region through a tender process.
At the same time, more than 100,000 residential houses are being built annually. For instance, large projects to construct companion “New Uzbekistan” towns in major cities like Tashkent, Samarkand, Namangan, and Andijan, as well as in the centers of other regions, are being implemented.
Our President specifically acknowledged the initiation of projects worth 200 million dollars to develop medium-sized cities, and projects worth 130 million dollars to improve infrastructure in rural areas, in collaboration with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. He expressed confidence in the expansion of such infrastructure projects with the bank and other partners.
