The director of the World Health Organization's European Regional Office, Hans Kluge, has announced that nearly 72,000 people die annually from seasonal flu in 53 countries of the continent and Central Asia, according to the Ministry of Health Press Service.
“Most of these death cases can be prevented,” he says. — “First and foremost, it is necessary to ‘protect’ the layer of the population with weak immunity with vaccines against the disease”.
As noted, the risk of contracting influenza and coronavirus increases during the autumn-winter season. These diseases can lead to severe complications in older adults, pregnant women, and people with weak immune systems or chronic diseases.
Therefore, it is imperative for the groups at risk to pay more attention to their health during this period. To this end, the WHO recommends adhering to five main precautionary measures.
1.Vaccination — the most preferable way to protect against seasonal respiratory infections.
2.People infected with influenza, acute respiratory viral infections, COVID-19 should seek medical advice and stay at home for treatment as much as possible.
3.Wearing masks in public places — protects you from contracting the disease.
4.Adhering to personal hygiene rules and ensuring the cleanliness of hands is important.
5.It is recommended to ventilate the rooms frequently. This will prevent the proliferation and widespread transmission of viruses.
According to Dr. Hans Kluge, considering such circumstances, this year, the WHO has launched a promotional campaign under the slogan “No one knows the risks you face better than you do”.
