Students of higher education institutions in the agricultural sector should be sent to work in villages for several years after completing their studies, said Russia's former Minister of Agriculture, the owner of one of the country's largest agro-industrial holdings, Alexander Tkachev. His words are reported by RBC here.

"Let's take an example from the Belarusians: there are those who study at the expense of the state (budget), and they should be put to work for 3-5 years to recoup that investment," — said the former minister.

Tkachev believes that this is the way to combat the acute shortage of professionals in the Russian agro-industrial complex.

In 2023, the shortage of labor in Russian agriculture amounted to 240,000 people. The sector employs a total of 6 million people. According to President Putin's decree, by 2030, it is planned to increase the volume of products of the Russian agro-industrial complex by 25 percent and to double the export to $55 billion.
