NATO has stated that it is capable of swiftly eliminating the Kaliningrad region in the event of a military threat from Russia. This was announced by Lieutenant General Christopher Donahue, commander of U.S. Army forces in Europe and Africa, in an interview with Defense News.
He emphasized that this territory, located between Lithuania and Poland, is a strategically critical point for the alliance. "This is not just a military objective; it is a target that can be eliminated in the shortest possible time. NATO forces can erase it from the face of the earth faster than any period in history," said General Donahue.
The U.S. general's statement suggests that tensions between Moscow and NATO could escalate further. Particularly against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine, such strategic threats are expected to add additional pressure to bilateral relations.
The Kaliningrad region is a Russian exclave in the heart of Europe, known for hosting advanced Russian military equipment, including missile systems with nuclear capabilities.
