US Vice President Kamala Harris called her opponent Donald Trump, who won the presidential election, to congratulate him. Politico reported this.

According to reports, the interlocutors discussed the peaceful transition of power and the importance of the president's role for all Americans. The conversation lasted several minutes. Trump's campaign office issued the following statement.

President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris spoke on the phone and he congratulated her on the historic victory. Trump highly appreciated the strength, professionalism, and determination of Vice President Harris throughout the campaign and both leaders acknowledged the importance of unity in the country, the statement says.

Kamala Harris expressed her gratitude to those who voted for her, stating that the results did not turn out as she had expected.

"We must acknowledge these election results. Earlier, I had spoken with Trump and congratulated him on his victory. I told him that we would assist in the transfer of power and ensure that this process is carried out peacefully. I accept my defeat in the election, but I do not accept the defeat of the movement that this campaign has ignited," Harris said.

She emphasized her ongoing commitment to fight for women's rights and other important issues:

"Now is not the time to sit back, but to roll up our sleeves and get to work," she added.

In the US elections held on November 5, Trump gathered the necessary 270 or more votes to win. Although current results are preliminary, it is clear that the Republican has gathered the necessary amount of votes. The inauguration of the 47th president of the US will take place on January 20, 2025.
