On January 15 of this year, our Consulate General in Istanbul received reports that four of our citizens (all male) had died as a result of consuming counterfeit alcoholic beverages. This was reported by the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Istanbul.
It had been reported on January 14 that six citizens had died.
The Consulate diplomats are in constant contact with the Istanbul health care, forensic medicine department, and law enforcement agencies regarding this situation.
Furthermore, questions received via our consulate's telephone numbers are being answered.
The Consulate urges all our citizens to take precautions, adhere to personal safety, and reach out to the Consulate General in case of necessity.
