The Pentagon will send 10,000 troops to the Mexico border to control illegal immigration. This is reported by The Washington Post newspaper.
According to the US Department of Defense, the initial actions include sending at least 1,500 ground troops to the border and adding them to the 2,500 soldiers that have been deployed there to this day.
At a Pentagon briefing, one of the high-ranking officials added that this number could be increased to 10,000. This is more than during Trump's first presidential term (2017-2021), when the number of troops at the border reached 8,000 by 2018. Under Joe Biden (2021-2025), this number was reduced to 2,500.
