Syria's new government has decided to change the national emblem. The channel “Al-Ikhbaria” reported about this.
It is noted that the new state symbol was presented during the ceremonial events aired by the “Al-Ikhbaria” TV channel in Damascus. Now, the emblem depicts a bird with spread wings and three stars above its head.
Speaking at the ceremony, the interim President of Syria, Ahmad al-Sharaa, stated that the modified emblem reflects the Syrian people's transition to a new phase in their history, and it also embodies the strength and resolve characteristic of the Syrians. According to the new leader of Damascus, the new emblem symbolizes a final break from the oppression of the previous regime.
Until now, the Syrian emblem featured a hawk with a shield on its chest, above which were three stars and the flag of the new Syrian government. The bird's talons held a ribbon with the inscription “Syrian Arab Republic”. Thus, the emblem resembled its previous version adopted during the era of former President Hafez al-Assad in 1980 – the only differences being the orientation of the hawk's head and the colors of the flag on its chest.
The introduction of the new emblem is being recognized as an important phase in the country's political life.
