The Senate's next plenary session discussed the "Food Safety" Law. This was reported by the Senate press service.

The aim of this Law is to regulate relations in the field of food safety.

The norms of the law are applied to ensure the population’s safe consumption of nutritious food products, to form effective market mechanisms, and to apply to the production of food products and raw materials.

The main directions of the state policy in the field of food safety are determined in the law.

In particular, forming reserve stocks of food products and raw materials according to the minimal consumption norms and expanding opportunities to provide the population with sufficient and continuous supply of socially significant types of food products are among these.

In addition, the state encourages the production of food products in accordance with the sanitary, veterinary, veterinary-sanitary, phytosanitary rules, and norms specified in legislative documents.

Activating external economic activities, as well as maintaining a favourable balance between the export and import of socially significant types of food products, are also among the directions of the state policy in the field of food safety.

The Ministry of Agriculture is being designated as the authorized state body in the field of ensuring food safety.

It is granted several authorities, such as coordinating the activities of the republic’s executive bodies and local executive authorities in the field of food safety, preparing proposals to support activities related to the production of food products and raw materials, and developing short, medium, and long-term strategies for improving and developing production processes based on studying factors negatively affecting food safety.

Additionally, the Law specifies measures to be taken by the state to prevent food product shortages, to form a food balance, and defines the rights and responsibilities of consumers and economic entities in the field of food safety.

The Law was approved by the senators at the end of the discussion.
