The number of people imprisoned due to crimes within a year has been disclosed.

In 2024, courts dealing with criminal cases reviewed 61,481 criminal cases involving 77,995 individuals.

According to it, in 2024, courts considered 61,481 criminal cases against 77,995 individuals. 723 individuals were acquitted and rehabilitated.

The number of convicted individuals was 61,502, of which 20,659 individuals were sentenced to imprisonment and 39,763 received other types of punishments, 1,080 individuals were given conditional sentences. The convicted included 

  • 54,370 men;
  • 7,132 women;
  • 22,757 youths (including 2,214 minors);
  • 2,637 individuals over 60 years old.

It was reported that 7,956 individuals were released in the courtroom due to being sentenced to non-custodial penalties, 33,151 individuals were conditionally released before the end of their sentence term, the sentences of 11,581 individuals were replaced with lighter ones, and charges under articles wrongfully imposed by preliminary investigation bodies were dropped or requalified for 14,991 individuals. 

  • 124 individuals (youths, women, and others) were sentenced to non-custodial penalties based on guarantee letters.
  • 33,146 individuals were conditionally released before the end of their punishment term, and the sentences of 11,581 individuals were replaced with lighter ones.

The majority of the criminal cases considered during the reporting period 

  • involved fraud,
  • violations of traffic regulations or the safety rules of using vehicles,
  • theft,
  • illegal preparation, possession, storage, and other actions with narcotic substances, their analogues or psychotropic substances without the intent of distribution,
  • embezzlement or misappropriation,
  • production of fake documents, stamps, seals, blanks, trafficking, or using them,
  • intentional infliction of minor bodily harm,
  • hooliganism,
  • intentional infliction of moderate bodily harm, 
  • crimes related to the illegal preparation, purchase, storage, and other actions with narcotic substances, their analogues or psychotropic substances with the intent of distribution, as well as illegal trafficking of those substances.
