A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 occurred in Myanmar on March 28. The tremors were also felt in Thailand. This was reported by Reuters here.
According to the US Geological Service, the epicenter of the earthquake was 17.2 kilometers away from the city of Mandalay (Myanmar) and at a depth of 10 kilometers. In Yangon city of Myanmar, search operations have begun to check for victims and destruction. There is no further information at this time. It is reported that a strong earthquake of magnitude 6.4 was recorded 12 minutes after the first shock.
Earthquakes were also recorded in the capital of Thailand, Bangkok, where one of the under-construction buildings collapsed. At least 43 workers were trapped underneath. Airports and metro operations in the country have been temporarily suspended.
In the densely populated central part of Bangkok, terrified residents began to evacuate high-rise buildings. Due to the strength of the earthquake, water overflowed from pools in tall buildings.
Rescue teams arrived at the scene immediately. Patients were evacuated from hospitals directly to the streets, away from buildings. No information has been given about serious destruction and casualties.
