The current year's March climate was close to the norm. It was characterized by sharp temperature fluctuations and uneven precipitation. "Uzhydromet" provided this information here.
The first five days of March were 5-7 degrees below the average norm, with very cold weather observed. On the coldest nights (3-4th March), the air temperature dropped to 3-8 degrees below zero in most areas, 12-17 degrees below zero in the north, and up to 23-24 degrees below zero in Ustyurt.
By the end of the first ten days of March, the air temperature began to rise, and by the middle of the third decade, very warm weather was observed in most parts of Uzbekistan. The temperature was 2-7 degrees above the norm, on some days 8-11 degrees above, and in the north, it was 12-15 degrees above the norm.
On the hottest days, the temperature rose to 25-30 degrees, in the south up to 31-35 degrees, which was close to the absolute maximum air temperature values for March.
In the middle of the third decade of March, cold air from the European parts of Russia entered the territory of Uzbekistan, and the air temperature dropped again by 3-6 degrees below the norm. In some parts of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the temperature at night dropped slightly below zero.
March was relatively warm, with the average monthly air temperature being 1-2 degrees above the norm.
On March 1st, in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and Khorezm region, and on March 2-3rd, in most parts of the republic, mainly snow precipitation was observed. In flat areas (except for the Fergana Valley provinces), a snow cover ranging from 3 cm to 13 cm was formed. The snow cover lasted for 1-2 days in flat areas, and for 4-6 days in the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
The formation of snow cover for a short period at the beginning of March is almost a usual occurrence.
On March 7-8th, rain fell across the republic, and snow in the mountains, followed by a long period of mostly dry weather in Uzbekistan. Rainfall resumed at the beginning of the third decade of March. During this period, a high anticyclone formed in the mid-troposphere, maintaining a circulation of moist air over the territory of Uzbekistan for several days.
On March 22-23rd in the north-western regions, on the 24-27th across most parts of the republic, and on March 28th in the eastern regions, rain fell occasionally, and in some places, it was heavy. The first spring thunderstorms were recorded in some areas.
Most of the monthly precipitation occurred during this period.
In most parts of the republic, the total precipitation for March was around or below the monthly norm. The driest areas in March were the Bukhara region and the southern part of the Navoiy region, where precipitation throughout the month was less than 40% of the norm.
Only in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Khorezm, Surkhandarya regions was the precipitation 1.2-1.7 times more than the monthly norm.
Rapid snowmelt was observed in the mountainous areas of the republic in March. By the end of the month, snow cover remained only in the high mountain areas of the Tashkent region, but even there, the height of the snow was less than the average multi-year indicators.
