Reports have spread on social networks that the cantaloupes grown in the Surkhandarya region contain nitrate levels above the norm and that citizens consuming them are being poisoned.

According to the regional governor's office, all agricultural products, including melons, in all the farms and food markets in the region are routinely examined by veterinary-sanitary laboratories. They are allowed to be sold only when their nitrate content is found to be in accordance with established sanitary standards.

So far, no cases of poisoning from consuming melons have been reported to any medical institutions in the region.

It is noted that the varieties of melons mentioned in the reports spread on social networks have no relation to the products grown in the Surkhandarya region.
