Varicose veins — is one of the most widespread chronic diseases in the world. According to the World Health Organization, this pathology affects one in every five people on our planet.

So, what factors are associated with this? How does the disease manifest itself? What are the dangerous complications?

— This disease is more prevalent among women, — says Akrom Ahmedov, the head of the department at the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center of Surgery, candidate of medical sciences. — The main reason is related to pregnancy. That is, varicose veins are more commonly observed in our sisters aged between 25-45. Besides, men are also prone to this disease around the age of 45-50.

The development of the disease can be attributed to genetics, standing for long periods, strong pressure of the uterus on other organs, venous constriction, obesity, congenital weakness of connective tissue, sedentariness, taking hormonal medications, endocrine problems, high venous pressure, and the development of chronic diseases among many factors.

Several stages are distinguished in the expansion of varicose veins.

In the first stage, heaviness and fatigue in the legs after a day's work, swelling in the calves, feet and lower leg after rest are observed. In such cases, all symptoms disappear after a night's rest or active walking.

Additionally, rapid fatigue of this body part, the appearance of venous nodes in the calf area, protruding veins when standing, itching of the skin, eczema-like dermatitis, and other various symptoms develop.

Some consider varicose veins to be merely an aesthetic issue. This is a wrong conclusion. Moreover, if this disease is not given timely attention, it can pose a serious threat to health.

In particular, the possibility exists for the appearance of trophic ulcers in the calf area, acute thrombophlebitis, rupturing of a varicose node leading to bleeding, and even death.

Therefore, it is essential to consult a doctor immediately upon noticing the first symptoms of varicose veins.

Preventive measures are important for those predisposed to the disease. Maintaining normal weight, adhering to a healthy lifestyle, avoiding chronic physical strain and standing for long periods, and not wearing tight clothing and high-heel shoes are recommended.
