50 Uzbek women who were in deportation centers in Turkey have been returned to their homeland. This was reported by the press service of the Migration Agency here.

It was reported that negotiations were held between the agency and officials of the Turkish Ministry of Labor and Social Protection regarding the legalization of citizens who are illegally residing in Turkey. As a result, the proposal to register Uzbek citizens, who were in an illegal status in this country, without administrative penalties and to issue them with permits to live and work (legalization) was approved by Turkish officials.

It was agreed to grant legal status to Uzbeks working illegally in caregiving for the elderly and children, and agriculture sectors.

Also, flight tickets for 50 women in Turkish deportation centers to return to their homeland were purchased through the Migration Fund. 28 of them were issued with a "return to homeland certificate," and the repatriation process began.

A new agreement on "Social Protection" between the governments of Uzbekistan and Turkey was agreed to be developed.

The Migration Agency calls on all citizens to work legally in Turkey. Uzbekistan citizens who are in an illegal status in this country need to apply to the migration department for legalization here.

For an Uzbek citizen to legalize in Turkey, the following conditions must be met:

  • having a biometric passport for traveling abroad with a validity of not less than 1 year;
  • the employer provides a guarantee letter through local notary offices (i.e., guaranteeing to provide employment to the foreign citizen);
  • the employer's monthly income must not be less than 132,000 Turkish Lira;
  • the foreign citizen must not have been temporarily detained or under surveillance at deportation centers before;
  • there should be no entry ban to Turkey for the foreign citizen;
  • not having been previously convicted.

Employers must initially apply to the local migration department for legalizing the status of foreign citizens who meet the above requirements, presenting a guarantee letter (taahhütnâme) that includes obligations such as providing information about the foreign citizen's residence, securing their life, health, the validity of their residence permit or work permit after expiration, and repatriating them to their home country afterwards.

The migration departments will issue a 6-month temporary residence permit (ikamet izni) for this foreign citizen. Then, it is necessary to apply to convert this temporary permit into a work permit within the latest 4 months.
