One week after the Alaska summit, it is difficult to speak of any progress in negotiations to end the war in Ukraine: a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky seems increasingly illusory, and according to Russian state media, a series of statements made during the Russia-US talks have created a "breakthrough," writes the BBC.

Will the meeting happen?

Following Zelensky's visit to Washington, Donald Trump said he had begun organizing a meeting between the Russian and Ukrainian presidents, after which a trilateral summit with US participation should be held.

"I think it would be better to see what happens if they meet without me. I want to see what happens," Trump said in an interview on Wednesday.

"Let's see if Putin and Zelensky can work together. You know, they are like oil and vinegar. They don't mix for certain reasons," added the US president.
