Against the backdrop of ongoing mass protests, curfews, and unrest in Nepal in recent days, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in India has issued an advisory for its citizens currently in Nepal.
The official message from the embassy states:
“To ensure your personal safety, it is recommended to follow the instructions of the Nepalese government, avoid crowded places, refrain from approaching areas where protests are taking place, and strictly adhere to local rules and regulations.”
For reference, since September 8th, thousands of young people, mainly students and pupils, have taken to the streets in protests against the government in Kathmandu and other cities.
These protests were triggered by the blocking of social networks, corruption, and censorship. According to official reports, the death toll from the protests has reached 22.
Although the government has lifted the ban on some social networks, the protests continue. The Prime Minister and three ministers have resigned.
