According to the BBC, the infant was accidentally found by a shepherd who was grazing goats. The man heard a gathering sound from underground and saw the infant's hands sticking out, and immediately informed the local residents. Police officers pulled him out from under the soil.
When admitted to the hospital, the infant's mouth and nose were full of soil, and its body was covered in mud and mosquito bites. Doctors reported that its life was in danger.
The police have not yet been able to find the infant's parents. Experts are not ruling out the possibility that gender-based discrimination could be behind this situation.
