In the second round of Group D of the 2026 World Cup, the Turkish national team lost to Paraguay with a score of 0:1 and lost the chance to advance to the playoff stage.
The match, held at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, USA, was officiated by Salvadoran referee Ivan Barton.
The only goal of the match was scored by Matias Galarza in the 2nd minute. Just before the end of the first half, Paraguayan striker Miguel Almirón received a straight red card and left the field.
According to reports, the player was sent off for expressing dissatisfaction with the referee, covering his mouth with his hand and saying a few words.
Thus, Turkey failed to earn any points after the second round, and it became clear that they would remain in 4th place in the group before the third round. In the first round, the Turks lost to Australia 0:2, while Paraguay lost to the USA 1:4.
