An area of 17.5 thousand hectares in the Okdaryo, Payariq, Pastdargom, Toyloq, and Samarkand districts will be annexed to the city of Samarkand. The head of state announced this at a meeting currently being held in the Urgut district.
As a result, the population of Samarkand city will increase from 604 thousand to 882 thousand.
"Therefore, to meet the demand for modern housing in Samarkand, whose population and income are growing day by day, three large areas have been selected.
In particular, more than 700 modern multi-story buildings will be constructed in the 'Shirin' area for 180 thousand people, in the 'Temiryol Orti' area for 100 thousand people, and in the 'Qorasuv-2' area for 30 thousand people.
Schools, kindergartens, higher education institutions and hospitals, modern business and shopping centers, hotels and restaurants, and recreational facilities will also be built in these areas," said the President.
Furthermore, 49 regional organizations in Samarkand city will move to the 'Shirin' area next year. By the end of this year, a 577-meter bridge over the 'Qoradaryo' connecting this area to the city center will be commissioned.
In partnership with Spanish investors on a public-private basis, the sewerage systems of these 3 areas will be modernized.
To reduce freight traffic in the city, 4 logistics centers will be built along the highway passing through the Okdaryo, Toyloq, and Samarkand districts.
