Today, on March 12, a section of the retaining wall partially collapsed in the new tunnel road near the intersection of Temur Malik and Buyuk Ipak Yuli streets in Tashkent city. The Tashkent city administration reported this.
It was reported that no casualties were recorded as a result of the incident. Emergency services, technical specialists, and representatives of responsible organizations promptly arrived at the scene. The area is currently cordoned off and safety measures have been strengthened.
According to officials, a comprehensive technical investigation is currently being conducted regarding the incident. Preliminary assumptions suggest that factors such as the heavy rainfall observed in recent days, excessive soil moisture, and increased load on the structure could have caused the incident.
Furthermore, all aspects related to design solutions, the quality of construction and installation works, the condition of the drainage system, and construction supervision are also being examined. Based on the investigation results, a decision will be made regarding restoration work.
For reference, this road passage was commissioned for use in August 2024. At that time, responsible persons emphasized that the service life of this tunnel-type road passage is 100–120 years.
