Three students were killed and seven others were injured in an armed attack at a high school located in the central part of the Philippines. This was reported by the Associated Press agency.
According to reports, the incident occurred on the morning of June 22 at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City. Initial information indicates that two students, aged 14 and 15, used firearms to open fire on the school grounds.
Regional police chief Jason Capoy stated that both the attackers and the victims were students of the said educational institution.
It was noted that the suspects were apprehended shortly after the incident. During initial questioning, they stated that they had been regularly subjected to humiliation and pressure at school. However, law enforcement agencies have not yet provided additional information regarding these claims.
According to investigation data, the teenagers have no prior criminal record. It also remains unknown where they obtained the 9mm pistol and .38 caliber revolver used in the attack.
Police reported that the school had only one guard who was simultaneously monitoring several entry and exit points, which made it possible to bring weapons into the educational institution's grounds.
According to law enforcement agencies, the suspects first entered one of the classrooms and opened fire. It is later presumed that they pursued some of the victims to other rooms.
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident. Additionally, instructions have been given to strengthen security measures in all schools, workplaces, and public places across the country.
Representatives of the presidential administration stated that the head of state was deeply saddened by the tragedy and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased.
