A new procedure will be introduced for passengers in the public transport system of Tashkent city. This is stipulated in the government's decision aimed at further improving the urban passenger transport system.
According to the decision, starting from September 1, 2026, every passenger boarding buses equipped with validators will be required to electronically confirm their trip. This will be done using a transport card, bank card, smartphone, or other contactless payment means.
Also, citizens entitled to discounted or free travel via a social or transport card must also confirm their status through the validator.
The government decision also provides for measures to modernize urban public transport. In particular, a number of benefits are being introduced for importing buses, electric buses, and trolleybuses that have a capacity of at least 60 passengers including the driver and meet Euro-5 or higher environmental standards.
It is specified that until December 31, 2027, a zero rate for the recycling fee will be applied when these types of vehicles are imported into the country. This is expected to accelerate the process of renewing city bus fleets.
The decision also amended the concept of city bus routes. Now, routes extending up to 12 kilometers from the city outskirts in accordance with the master plans for the development of transport and road transport infrastructure will also be recognized as city bus routes.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Transport has been tasked with introducing an integrated payment system for public transport and suburban electric trains by September 1, 2026. Under this system, it is planned to develop unified tariff plans such as "electric train – bus" and "electric train – metro".
