“Navoiy” border customs post detected an attempt to illegally bring a tiger constrictor snake into the country. This was reported by the press service of the Customs Committee here.
According to the report, this species is under international protection, and a CITES international permit is required to bring it into Uzbekistan. However, the traveler was unable to present the relevant documents.
Currently, an investigation is being conducted by the customs authorities regarding the incident.
It is noted that the snake was handed over to the Tashkent Zoo in accordance with established procedures, and its condition is reported to be satisfactory.
For reference, the tiger constrictor snake is a large, non-venomous species of constrictor that hunts by wrapping its body around its prey and stopping its breathing. It is mainly found in Central and South America and can reach a length of 2–4 meters, sometimes up to 5 meters.
Due to the colorful patterns on its body resembling tiger skin, it is called “tiger-like.” It feeds on rodents, birds, and small mammals, and gives birth to live young.
