A major fire broke out at the South Bushwick Reformed Church in the Brooklyn borough of New York City, USA, almost completely destroying the 174-year-old historic building. Zamon.uz reported, citing ABC television. reported.
According to ABC television, the fire started around 1:20 p.m. local time at the church building on Bushwick Avenue. About 20 minutes later, the church's bell tower collapsed.
The New York Fire Department conducted firefighting operations for several hours, and by 3:35 p.m., the flames were completely extinguished. One firefighter sustained minor injuries as a result of the incident.
According to initial assessments, the fire caused serious damage to the historic structure, and the matter of demolishing it is being considered. The cause of the fire is not yet known; an investigation is ongoing.
The South Bushwick Reformed Church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, and local residents are assessing the loss of this landmark as a major cultural loss.
