According to crime data, a ransom note sent a few days after the 84-year-old mother of American host Savannah Guthrie was kidnapped from her home stated that she had died.
This letter was sent to Nancy Guthrie's family and was one of two letters sent to the media in the days following her kidnapping in January.
According to U.S. media sources, the first demanded millions in Bitcoin for her release, but the second said she had died.
Reports say the kidnappers' letter stated they did not want her death and apologized to the family. The Pima County Sheriff's Department declined to comment on the contents of the letters but said the investigation is "active and ongoing."
