The location of a house belonging to the famous writer William Shakespeare in London has been identified, but the building has not survived to this day. The press service of the Royal College of London reported this.
According to researchers, Shakespeare bought his only property in London in 1613, three years before his death. The house was located on one of the quiet streets near the city center. Lucy Munro, a researcher from the University of Cambridge, studied old archival documents and, based on a 1668 plan and other historical sources, determined the exact location of the house.
Previously, scholars believed that Shakespeare left London after the theater fire in 1613 and returned to Stratford. However, new findings indicate that he stayed in the capital and remained active in theatrical life.
It is reported that the house was located near the old Dominican monastery, in the area of present-day St. Andrew's Hill. Currently, there are buildings from the 19th century in this area. Researchers have also determined that the blue commemorative plaque on the current street is installed exactly on the site where Shakespeare's house stood.
