Today, on July 4, two exciting matches took place in the round of 32 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In a match held in Miami, the Argentina national team defeated Cape Verde 3-2 in extra time to advance to the round of 16. Lionel Messi opened the scoring in the 29th minute, while Deroy Duarte scored the equalizer in the 59th minute. The regular time ended 1-1.

In extra time, Lisandro Martínez restored Argentina's lead in the 92nd minute, and Sidney Cabral leveled the score again in the 103rd minute. However, an own goal by Cape Verde player Diney in the 111th minute decided the outcome of the match.

In this match, Lionel Messi scored his 20th goal in World Cup history, further strengthening his record as the all-time top scorer in the tournament. At the same time, he played his 30th World Cup match, surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo (26 games) in this category.

Additionally, in another round of 32 match, the Egypt national team defeated Australia in a penalty shootout. After the regular and extra time ended 1-1, Egypt won 4-2 on penalties.

Imam Ashur scored the goal for Egypt in the 13th minute, while Australia equalized in the 55th minute after Mohamed Hani scored an own goal.

Thus, Egypt qualified for the playoffs by finishing second in Group G, while Australia finished second in Group D.

Now, in the round of 16, a match between Argentina and Egypt has been set. The match will take place on July 7 in Atlanta.

For reference, the 2026 World Cup is being held jointly by the USA, Canada, and Mexico. The tournament will conclude on July 19.
