Today, on July 12, in one of the main fights of the UFC tournament held in Las Vegas, famous Irish fighter Conor McGregor was defeated by American Max Holloway.
The fight in the welterweight division ended with a technical knockout in the very first round. In the opening seconds of the bout, after throwing a strike, McGregor fell awkwardly and injured his leg. He tried to continue the fight, but the referee, taking into account his condition, decided to stop the contest.
This was the second meeting between these two fighters. They first clashed in the octagon in 2013, and at that time Conor McGregor won by unanimous decision of the judges.
For the record, the 37-year-old McGregor has recorded 22 wins and 7 losses during his mixed martial arts (MMA) career. He previously captured championship belts in the UFC's featherweight and lightweight divisions.
The 34-year-old Max Holloway, on the other hand, has 28 wins and 9 losses in his professional career. He held the UFC featherweight championship belt from 2017 to 2019 and successfully defended it three times.
After that, Holloway had three more opportunities to reclaim the championship title. However, he was defeated twice by Australian Alexander Volkanovski and once by Spanish Ilia Topuria.
