England midfielder Jude Bellingham commented on his interaction with Lionel Messi on the pitch after the match in which they lost 1:2 to Argentina in the semifinals of the 2026 World Cup.

According to Bellingham, the conversation being discussed on social media did not involve any argument or insult.

"Our conversation with Messi was actually about a foul. There were no bad words. I am sure many will try to exaggerate this situation, but in reality nothing happened.

Earlier, I thought there was a foul in one situation. He asked: 'What do you say about the situation against me?' I replied to him: 'You are strong enough to handle such a situation,'" said Bellingham.

He also emphasized that playing against Lionel Messi was a great honor for him.

"Of course, we lost and it is very painful. But playing against one of the best footballers in the world is a great honor for me. I wish Messi luck," he said.

Bellingham also noted that the England national team will fight for trophies again in the future.

"We will come back. We will do everything in our power to bring the cup to England. This defeat is very painful. I wanted to be part of the team that makes history with England.

It is very hard to repeat to the fans what they have been hearing for years. Today is a sad day for us. We played well, fought with all our might, but it was not enough.

Right now, my thoughts are filled only with disappointment. I apologize to our fans," the English footballer concluded.
