After an open dialogue with entrepreneurs in the city of Khiva, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev familiarized himself with the new “Urganch – Khiva” toll road.
In our country, special attention is paid to developing modern road infrastructure and increasing the speed and safety of traffic. The newly revised Law “On Automobile Roads,” adopted on August 5 this year, established the legal foundations for organizing toll roads. Here, the main condition is that an alternative free road exists for drivers.
The new highway between Urganch airport and the city of Khiva is aimed at creating safe, fast, and convenient movement opportunities for residents and tourists.
Within the project, 35 kilometers of highway, 1 underground tunnel, 8 road overpasses, 15 bridges, and 106 culvert structures were built.
While traveling from Urganch to Khiva via the existing road takes 45–50 minutes, on the new four-lane highway this time will be reduced to 15–17 minutes. The road has a capacity to carry more than 30,000 vehicles per day.
Management of traffic flow and toll collection is carried out through digital systems based on artificial intelligence. Fees from passenger cars, trucks, and buses are collected electronically without stopping the vehicle.
It is also envisaged to establish service and amenity facilities along the road that meet international standards.
In the upper layers of the road pavement, a specially modified bitumen mixture resistant to hot climates was used. The total thickness of the pavement is 87 centimeters.
The new highway will serve to further speed up and facilitate travel between Urganch and Khiva, expand transport opportunities for tourists, and develop the region’s road infrastructure.
With this, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to Khorezm region concluded, and the head of our state departed for Tashkent.
