President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev presented U.S. President Donald Trump with two traditional Uzbek iwans for installation in a park in Washington. The New York Times reported this.
It was noted that the iwans will be installed in West Potomac Park in Washington. In that area, on Trump's initiative, a National Garden of American Heroes is planned to be established.
According to Katie Martin, Director of Communications at the U.S. Department of the Interior, Mirziyoyev gave the traditional Uzbek iwans to Trump to accept on behalf of the American people. The iwans are planned to be installed in the park by the end of autumn.
Uzbekistan's Ambassador to the U.S., Furkat Sidikov, also commented on the gift, emphasizing that he is proud that Uzbek art will become part of the National Garden of American Heroes in Washington.
“Two traditional Uzbek iwans — a gift from the President of Uzbekistan to the President of the United States and the American people — will be a symbol of our friendship and strategic partnership,” the ambassador wrote.
Under the project Trump is planning, the park is to feature ponds, dining facilities, an amphitheater, and 250 life-size statues of famous Americans.
