The Israeli government intends to build a wall along the border separating the Gaza Strip and Egypt. This was reported by the Report News Agency here.

In this way, the Israeli military wants to take control of the border.

The length of the Gaza Strip and Egypt border is — 20 kilometers, also known as the Philadelphia Corridor. In 2005, the Israeli army (IDF) withdrew from the Philadelphia Corridor, handing over border control to Egypt. In May 2024, the IDF retook the corridor during the "Iron Swords" military operation in Rafah.

After the 1995 Oslo Accords, Israel was allowed to maintain a security corridor. Following Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip in 2005, the Philadelphia Agreement was signed with Egypt. According to it, Egypt was allowed to position up to 750 border guards along its side of the corridor. The Palestinian side of the border was controlled by the Palestinian Authority until HAMAS took over the government in 2007.
