At the Kokand residence, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is meeting with athletes who defended the honor of our country at the Paralympic Games in Paris, their parents, and coaches. The President’s press secretary reports this.
“You, dear athletes, achieved record results at the 17th Summer Paralympic Games held in Paris, France, bringing such a festive spirit to our country.
I sincerely congratulate all of you on your global achievements and results on my behalf and on behalf of our people,” - said the head of our state at the beginning of his speech.
This international sports event, featuring about 4,400 of the strongest and most talented athletes from 168 countries, indicates its prestigious and grand scale.
“In this sense, the Paralympic Games are a true demonstration of willpower, courage, perseverance, goodness, and humanism, it would be correct to say.
You, our determined and passionate children, have reached high peaks in fiercely competitive battles, becoming the true heroes of the competitions,” - said the President.
The Uzbekistan team won 10 gold, 9 silver, and 7 bronze medals – a total of 26 medals, ranking 13th in the overall team standings, 3rd in Asia, and 1st among Turkic, Islamic countries, and the Commonwealth of Independent States.
Such a record result at the Paralympic Games has never been achieved before.
“This is the result of your relentless hard work, indomitable will, talent, and skill. This is a result of our systematic efforts aimed at truly upholding human dignity in our country.
Only those who love their Motherland with all their heart and soul, with strong will and fire in their hearts, are capable of such great works.
Our people are immensely proud of you. Thank you very much!” - said the head of our state.
After the Tokyo Paralympic Games, it was hoped with good intentions to enter the strong “top fifteen” next time.
Over the past years, relentless effort has been made towards this goal. All necessary conditions have been created for our athletes, laying a solid foundation for reaching high peaks.
As a result, Uzbekistan participated in this year’s Paralympic Games with its largest-ever contingent, namely 65 athletes across 9 sports disciplines.
In particular, it’s necessary to especially recognize our representatives in para cycling who participated in these competitions for the first time.
