The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia supports the proposal to include an oral part in the Russian language exam for migrants. This was reported by referring to the Deputy Minister Konstantin Mogilevsky,TASS reported.
“The Ministry of Education and Science of Russia supports the proposals to add an oral part to the examination in the Russian language for labor migrants. At the same time, it is necessary to introduce relevant amendments to the Regulations on the Conduct of the Examination to implement these proposals,” says the deputy minister.
Since 2014, labor migrants in Russia are required to pass an exam in the Russian language, legal framework, and history of the country to obtain a work patent, residence permit, and citizenship.
In July 2024, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education reported that the share of migrants who have not taken the exam since January has increased tenfold.
In the last ten years, the number of labor migrants in Russia has halved. Specifically, while up to 7 million foreigners worked in the country simultaneously between 2012-2014, their number did not exceed 3-3.5 million in 2022-2023.
